What to Expect When Starting
In this phase, “Discover Scuba Diving” is your introductory dive experience. For this experience, there is no need for you to know swimming because you would always be accompanied by an experienced tutor.
Step 1: Paperwork and Briefing:
Begin with paperwork and a briefing. Get to the diving site. Complete a medical questionnaire to confirm that you are fit for diving. Your trained instructor will then introduce you to the basic principles of diving. Precautions on how to stay safe while diving, signals to communicate while underwater (such as “Ok,” “Go Up,” “Something is wrong”), and the most essential safety tip—how to breathe ever so slowly and smoothly. While descending into the water, you will be taught how to balance your ear pressure.
Step 2: Shallow Water Training:
Various skills will be learnt before proceeding to the reef. These skills will be done before entering the reef area. You build confidence. You will use the regulator (the piece in your mouth) for breathing air, clearing water from your mask, and replacing it back into your mouth.
Step 3: Main Dive
When you are ready, your teacher will guide you into the water, holding your hand. The DSD teacher is typically private. You’ll descend between 8 and 12 metres. Instructors will regulate depth and movement. Drift above coral reefs for 30-45 minutes. Observe parrotfish, clownfish (Nemo!), sea turtles, and other colorful fish. The teacher will point out interesting aquatic life. It’s normal to feel some anxiety. Alarm your teacher if you feel nervous. They know all about staying chill and safe.
Step 4: Ascent/Debrief:
This ascent will be done at a safe and manageable rate. Remove the gear as soon as possible when emerging from the water. Share your stories and bring home your underwater pictures and videos.
