Inner Line Permit for Arunachal Pradesh: Application Process and Requirements 2026

Arunachal Pradesh is lovely. It features lush woods, majestic mountains, and vibrant tribes. Known as the “Land of Dawn-Lit Mountains.” The government employs the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to safeguard this particular territory.

ILP is a travel document. Every Indian outside Arunachal Pradesh needs it. This permit lets you visit and travel specified state regions for a fixed period. Consider it a special authorisation to enter a protected area. Your fantastic adventure begins with this permission. Tourists go through it often, so don’t worry. This tutorial simplifies the procedure.

Learning the Inner Line Permit

ILP originated from the 1873 Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation. Goals have evolved throughout time. Now, its major goal is:

  • It safeguards native tribal customs and lifestyles.
  • Maintain regional safety: It helps the government track state visitors and departures.

Arunachal Pradesh prohibits entrance without an ILP. Get yours before you go.

Who Needs ILP?

All Indians outside Arunachal Pradesh need an ILP. This comprises tourists, workers, and students.

  • Children: Unless they are under 14 and travelling with an ILP-holding adult, youngsters require their own permission. Some sources say children under 14 don’t require an e-ILP but must be with an adult. Check the current age group rule for your child.
  • Permanent residents of Arunachal Pradesh are exempt from obtaining an ILP.
  • Note to Foreign Visitors: Not an Indian citizen? Get a separate permission. A PAP or RAP is what it is. India requires foreign travellers to use registered travel agents. Different laws apply to overseas tourists. Indian ILP is the topic of this tutorial.

Indian Citizens’ ILP Types

ILPs are issued for several reasons. Your permission depends on why you’re visiting the state.

1. Temporary tourist ILP:

  • For vacationers and sightseers.
  • Validity: Up to 14 days. This kind is most prevalent.
  • Application: Online (e-ILP) or offline.

2.Temporary ILP:

  • Purpose: For short stays that are longer than the tourist limit, like for certain projects.
  • Validity: This pass is good for 15, 30, or 60 days.

3.Regular or Permanent ILP:

  • The goal is to stay for a long time, like for a job, a business, or school.
  • Validity: It is good for one year at a time and can be renewed yearly. Like a neighbourhood baker, more papers are needed.
